In short
On industrial estates new units, extensions and yard walls are often built tight to the boundary and next to existing buildings. That commonly triggers Section 1 for new walls on the boundary and Section 6 for foundations near neighbouring units. We serve notices and agree awards that keep the build moving and neighbouring businesses running.
Typical industrial work under the Act
- New portal-frame units or extensions built up to the boundary
- Pad and strip foundations near neighbouring units
- Ground beams and retaining walls along shared boundaries
- Work to shared walls between terraced industrial units
Keeping neighbours operating
Neighbouring businesses need deliveries, vehicle access and safe working areas. Awards can cover access routes, protection of neighbouring yards and how any damage is put right.

Common questions
Do steel-framed buildings need Section 1 notices?
If a new wall is built on or up to the boundary, yes, whatever the frame type.
Is a palisade fence covered by the Act?
No. Fences aren't walls. Masonry boundary walls can be.

Planning a commercial scheme?
